Tawa-tawa Tea for Dengue Treatment

Posted on | June 3, 2011 | 1 Comment

Lili got sick the other day, and so, as a precautionary measure, my cousin and I made Tawa-tawa tea from Tawa-Tawa or Asthma Weed (Euphorbia hirta Linn) found at the DepEd Camiguin grounds.. It has been proven many times over that Tawa-tawa or Gatas-gatas in some regions, have curing effect for dengue. And ever since it has been used by friends, relatives and family members, we have been blessed with this miracle plant..

We learned about Tawa-tawa, when a cousin’s friend came by selling scrubs that her mom made for their nursing classmates, of course at that time no one knew about  Cherokee Scrubs or even those from Sketchers, so settled buying or getting their scrubs from local seamstresses.  At that time, our baby cousin was feared to have dengue as his platelets were dropping like crazy, and this friend of theirs introduced Tawa-tawa. We almost did not believe her then.. But after that, even when someone in the family would feel differently, like having fever and a painful tummy, we immediately call for some to make Tawa-tawa tea..

Here’s how to do it:

1.) Wash the stems and leaves properly.

2.) Boil about six stems with leaves and flowers in two glasses of water for a minute or two..

3.) Let cool.

4.) Let the patient drink the cooled concoction..
