Dealing With Arthritis

Posted on | September 23, 2011 | No Comments

When my grandma was still alive, she would often take glucosamine sulphate whenever her arthritis would bother her. Then I read about certain kinds of foods to eat and foods to avoid in order that arthritis will not be that painful, or if luck will strike, completely avoid it.

My grandma was lucky, it did not reach a point that her hands would look like the images below:

Truly, it does look bothersome, but the person suffering from arthritis will also be bothered by the pain it will cause. The major complaint by individuals who have arthritis is joint pain. Pain that is often constant and may be localized to a specific joint. This pain from arthritis occurs because of an inflammation that occurs around the joint, and this damage to the joint is because of some disease, daily wear and tear of joint, muscle strains that is mostly caused by forceful movements against stiff, painful joints and of course, fatigue. So, as much as possible, if it can be avoided, every measure must be taken. Food intake as well as exercise. And to add, vitamins that can help stimulate the regular flow of blood at the blood vessels.

Now, we are more cautious that we take food seriously, for the fact that diet plays a major role in avoiding arthritis. It is said that beans or legumes are the top most triggering factor for arthritis.

Below are some beans that may trigger arthritic reactions.

Vegetables and fruits are good for the body. But there are certain foods that we must be aware of ill effects towards the body.. Below are some other foods that are best avoided so that arthritis pain will not occur.

1.) Red meat (beef, lamb, pork), one should substitute chicken and oily fish.

2.) Fruits and vegetables labeled as members of the nightshade family such as tomatoes, white potatoes, eggplants, red peppers, and tobacco.

3.) Wax covered fruit and citrus fruit. To improve shelf life, fruits are covered with wax, so organic fruits are recommended.

4.) Dairy products such as cows milk, cheese and yoghurt.

5.) Sugar and foods containing sugar like chocolate, sweets, soft drinks, syrup, honey,  and treacle

6.) Flour and bran made from white wheat. One must avoid foods where the ingredients include cereal binders, cereal fillers or cereal protein, wheat starch or edible starch, as they can trigger the pain.

7.) Dry roasted nuts  as well as raw nuts like almonds. Walnuts and brazil nuts may be beneficial.

8.) Beverages like alcohol, tea, coffee (including decaffeinated), cocoa and of course, soft drinks.

9.) Foods containing caffeine.

10.) Butter and margarine must be restricted.

11.) Salt, pepper and vinegar too. Sure, food may go bland, but there are also other ways to find alternatives.

To experiment with one’s arthritis pain, parallel to the diet  that he or she must employ to see what works best is one’s prerogative. Some of these foods may be tolerable, but for other, not. One does not really have to eliminate all of the foods mentioned above,  but only some of them or one may get arthritis pain relief by restricting the intake of some foods.

Now, preparing foods with limited ingredients may be boring for some, but a good arthritis diet does not need to be. One just have to use imagination in the preparation of foods in order to get variety in flavors and taste.
